Every December, agents face the same question: how do you thank a whole year of clients without losing a weekend to wrapping paper and post office lines? This guide covers what to send, how much to spend, and the simplest way to get gifts to your entire list across Canada before the holidays.
Why holiday client gifts still work
Most of your past clients will move again, refer a friend, or be asked "who was your agent?" at least once in the next few years. A holiday gift is one of the few touches that lands in their home, not their inbox. It works best when it is:
- Useful or consumable. Something they will light, pour, brew or wrap up in, not a branded trinket that ends up in a drawer.
- Clearly from you. Your name and message travel with the gift so they know who thought of them.
- On time. A gift that arrives the week before the holidays gets remembered. One that arrives in January gets a polite thank-you.
Holiday gift ideas by budget
Under $50: the whole-list gift
If you are sending to 30, 50 or 100 past clients, keep the per-gift cost in a range you can repeat every year. Good choices are small and seasonal:
- Sea Salt & Maple Popcorn from Toronto Popcorn Company, a very Canadian treat for a movie night at home.
- Foresta Fir Tree Reusable Soy Candle, which smells like walking into a Christmas tree lot.
- Sweet Canadian Maple Black Tea from Tealish for a slow holiday morning.
See everything in this range in Gifts Under $50.
$50 to $100: top clients and referral partners
For clients who closed this year, repeat clients and the people who sent you business, a boxed gift feels more substantial:
- Québec Caramel Holiday Box with caramel spreads, caramel popcorn and nougat to share.
- Nordic Spa Gift Box with tea, a candle and a bath soak for a quiet night in.
- Lao Sparkling Tea Celebration Box, something to toast with that happens to be alcohol-free.
$100 and up: your biggest relationships
For your top referral sources or clients who bought this year at the high end, choose something they will use every day:
- Fireside Candle Set, four fall and winter scents in one box.
- Beige Check Heavyweight Knit Throw, the gift that ends up on the couch all winter.
- Triangle Whiskey Decanter Gift Set for the clients who host.
How to send gifts to your whole client list
The hard part of holiday gifting is not choosing the gift. It is the addresses, the messages and the shipping. Here is a process that takes an evening instead of a weekend:
- Pull your list early. Export past clients from your CRM with name, current mailing address and, if you have it, email. Remove anyone who has moved again or asked not to be contacted.
- Tier it. Split the list into two or three groups by budget so you are not deciding gift by gift.
- Write one message per tier. Short and personal beats long and generic: "Wishing you a warm first holiday season in the new place. Thank you for trusting me with your move."
- Send the list once. With Maple & Key you paste your names and addresses into our holiday client list form with one card message for everyone. We confirm the gift and your total within one business day, then each gift ships straight from its maker to your client's door anywhere in Canada.
- Let the e-card do the follow-up. If you include client emails, each client also gets a branded e-card from you, with your name and logo, as soon as their gift ships.
Deadlines: order by December 5
Most of our makers ship within 1 to 5 business days, and delivery usually takes 2 to 7 business days anywhere in Canada. Carriers also slow down in December. To give every gift room to arrive before the holidays, send your holiday client list by December 5. You can still order single gifts after that, but the earlier you order, the less you leave to the carriers.
A note on branding
If your gift message or e-card promotes you as an agent, treat it like any other marketing piece. In Ontario, RECO's advertising guidance expects your brokerage to be clearly identified, so include your brokerage name with your own name and logo. Check with your broker of record if you are unsure.
Quick checklist
- Client list exported and cleaned by mid-November
- Budget tiers chosen
- One message written per tier, with your brokerage name
- List sent by December 5
- Client emails included so each client gets your e-card
